If your child is often overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, fidgety, shut down, or struggling to focus, there is usually more going on than just behaviour. Sometimes children are doing their best to cope in a body where the brain is under stress.
You might notice things like:
Big emotional reactions that are hard for them to move through
Difficulty sitting still at the dinner table, kinder, or in the classroom
Trouble following instructions the first time
Constant fidgeting, crashing, chewing, or needing movement
Becoming overwhelmed in busy or loud environments
Difficulty with transitions or changes in routine
Clumsiness or poor coordination
Challenges with reading, writing, concentration, or memory
Sensitivity to food textures or a limited range of foods
Frustration, low confidence, or avoiding tasks
Difficulty expressing what they need or how they feel
For many children, these are signs that the brain and body need more support to organise and work together.
It’s not bad behaviour. It’s a brain that needs support.
